Bison Split at HSU

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist extended its Great American Conference win streak to three games, before losing to Henderson State Sunday.
 
OBU won the opener 4-2 before falling 4-3 in the second game.
 
In the opener, OBU scored once in the first when Brett Berghammer and Brett Bloomfield singled ahead of an RBI base hit by Josh Timms.
 
The Bison added two in the second inning. Jake Gozzo and Garrett McKee singled and Berghammer doubled down the right field line for two RBI.
 
OBU went ahead 4-0 in the fourth when McKee double home Gozzo, who had reached on a single.
 
Albertus Barber (4-0) allowed two earned runs over seven innings, striking out four batters. Nick Burnham got the six-out save, his second of the season, allowing one walk and no hits or runs.
 
OBU had 10 hits, including three by McKee and two apiece by Berghammer and Gozzo.
 
The Bison scored three times in the first on an RBI single by Timms and a two-run base hit by Kaden Betsch.
 
Henderson State scored one in the bottom of the first and added three unearned runs in the fifth.
 
Zach Fowler (2-1) took the loss, allowing one earned run over 4.2 innings while fanning seven. Nick Burnham allowed one hit over 1.1 innings, striking out three.
 
OBU had five hits – all singles.
 
The same two teams meet Monday in the deciding game of the series at noon.
