Bison Halted at Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State turned three first-half interceptions into touchdowns and rolled to a 56-21 win over Oklahoma Baptist Saturday.
 
Shane Sanders intercepted a pass and returned it 31 yards for a touchdown to thwart OBU's first possession for a 7-0 HSU lead.
 
The Bison answered quickly on a three-play, 55-yard scoring drive. Tyler Stuever had a 15-yard run and Preston Haire threw to Noah McGraw for a 35-yard touchdown pass. Luke Wendl tacked on the PAT to tie the score with 13:20 remaining in the first quarter.
 
That score stood until HSU capped a 16-play drive on the first play of the second quarter for a 14-7 lead.
 
An eight-play, 54-yard drive gave the Reddies a 21-7 lead with 10:45 left in the half. After a batted ball ended up in a third interception, HSU was in the end zone on the next offensive play from 19 yards out for a 28-7 lead with 10:05 showing on the first half clock.
 
Logan Morgane went 58 yards for a scoring run for a 35-7 HSU lead with 6:52 remaining in the second quarter.
 
The Bison narrowed the gap to 35-14 in the third quarter, driving 73 yards on eight plays. Haire passed to McGraw for gains of 18 and 29 yards before throwing to Josh Pettijohn for a seven-yard touchdown with 10:55 left in the third quarter.
 
HSU scored on a 63-yard run by Querale Hall and again on a 38-yard TD pass to take a 49-14 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
Haire passed to Cagney Roberson for 35 yards and to Reece Gilbert for 19 to set up a one-yard touchdown run by Stuever to cut the HSU lead to 49-21 with 12:39 to play.
 
Josh Arnold has a dozen tackles to lead the Bison.
 
For the day, Haire was 16-45 for 217 yards. McGraw led the receivers with four catches and 88 yards while Roberson added three receptions and 51 yards. Stuever had 17 carries for 59 yards.
 
Now 2-4, the Bison host Ouachita Baptist Saturday at 1 p.m.
