Lady Bison Sweep Tigers

Box Score (html)

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist put together a complete match to earn the series sweep of East Central, dropping the Tigers, 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-16), on Thursday night in Great American Conference action.

The Lady Bison were dominant defensively in the first two sets, limiting ECU to a combined hitting percentage of .097 through the first two frames. Oklahoma Baptist combined that defense with big runs offensively to build a 2-0 lead.

In the third set, with the match all but decided, OBU head coach Anna Howle went to her bench. The defensive prowess carried over, with ECU hitting a match-worst .040 for the set, while OBU dug out 10 balls and blocked three attacks. Match point came on an ace from Destiny AbuBakir-Temple.

Mikayla Watson led the offense with 13 kills, followed by Nicole Fleitman's eight. Malia Leatherland finished with seven kills, and would have added to her total but sat out the final set. Hayden Blair had 27 assists, and boasted an assist rate of .429.

Defensively, OBU tallied 49 digs, led by Watson who completed her double-double with 17. Leatherland was second with eight. Fleitman, AbuBakir-Temple and Taylor Williams each finished with three total blocks.
