SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist launches its 2018 baseball season this weekend with a three-game set against Manhattan Christian.

The series begins with a 6 p.m. game Friday, followed by a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.

The first 100 fans on Friday get a free OBU t-shirt.

Manhattan Christian baseball took 2017 off and has freshman-dominated roster. OBU and MCC have never met in baseball.

OBU won its second consecutive NCCAA national championship last spring. This year, the Bison received votes in the NCAA-recognized Collegiate Baseball rankings.

OBU returns its top four hitters from last year's 42-15 squad.
Brett Berghammer hit .377,
Josh Timms hit .376 with 13 home runs and 59 RBI,
Juan Gonzalez hit .349 and
Zane Gelphman batted .322 with 10 home runs and 64 RBI.

Pitchers
Zach Fowler (5-1, 3.08 earned run average) and
AJ Merkel (5-2, 2.28 ERA) return to lead a deep but virtually new pitching staff.
