SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist men's soccer team reaches the midway point of a five-match road swing when they take on Fort Hays State in nonconference action in Hays, Kansas, on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.
Oklahoma Baptist (2-4-1) split the first two contests of the road trip, besting Ouachita Baptist before dropping an overtime decision to Harding. However, both wins for the Bison this season have come away from Bison Hill.
The Bison are led offensively by
Thiago Dos Santos with three goals and one assist, while
Martin Romero is second on the squad with two goals. Oklahoma Baptist is averaging 1.57 goals per match on 12.6 shots. In total, seven different Bison have found the back of the net this season.
On the defensive side of the ball, OBU have allowed an average of 13.9 shots through seven outings, with 44.3 percent of those shots testing Bison goalkeeper
Parker Lawter. The freshman goalkeeper currently owns a 2.05 goals-against average and has 27 saves on the season.
Fort Hays State (2-4-2) is unbeaten in their last three, most recently recording wins over Southwest Baptist and Northeastern State. Derick Gonzalez has done the heavy lifting for a Tigers offense averaging 13.0 shots and 1.75 goals, taking 19 shots and converting five into goals in his first eight matches. Gonzalez, the hub of the FHSU offense, also leads the team with four assists.
Defensively, opponents have averaged 1.62 goals in eight contests, and the Tigers have recorded two clean sheets this season. Michael Yantz has started all but one match in goal, posting a 1.46 GAA and .750 save percentage while facing just over 13 shots per outing.
