WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Oklahoma Baptist women soccer's three-match win streak to open the season was snapped on Friday night as they fell, 3-2, to Midwestern State at Stang Park in Wichita Falls, Texas. It's the first loss of the season for the Lady Bison.
Â
It didn't take long for OBU to get on the board thanks to
Lara Haring-Lovett. The Lady Bison's left back collected the rebound after MSU goalkeeper Courtney Burnette was unable to cleanly save
Hannah White's first attempt. Haring-Lovett coolly slotted it home for her first career goal in the Green and Gold, putting OBU up 1-0 in the process in just the 5th minute of play.
Â
The Lady Bison were able to capitalize again on a high-pressure first half in the 41st minute.
Hannah Evans squared the ball to
Ruth King who was able to pounce on it for an easy finish from five yards out to give OBU a 2-0 advantage as the interval beckoned.
Â
It's said that a 2-0 lead is the most dangerous lead, and it rang true as a defensive lapse in just under two minutes saw OBU's lead evaporate into a 2-2 deadlock between the 56th and 58th minute. Despite several chances that flashed just wide of the post for King and
Kerregan Edwards, it was the Mustangs who found the winning formula with a curling shot from distance that sneaked just past the fingertips of
Emily Griffith.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist (3-1) return home to face (RV) Texas Woman's at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 18 at the OBU Soccer Complex.
