SHAWNEE – The Lady Bison displayed resilience as they stormed back with two goals in the final 20 minutes to dispatch (RV) Texas Woman's on Monday night at the OBU Soccer Complex.
A quick flurry of activity opened the match but found OBU on the back foot. After TWU took the lead in the first three minutes,
Hannah White pressed well and intercepted a pass before coolly beating the Pioneers' keeper to level the score. Unfortunately, Texas Woman's almost immediately struck back with a weak effort that just rolled over the goal line, and the Lady Bison trailed 2-1 in just the 8th minute.
Despite two more shots on goal by
Jennifer Goethe and Hannah Evan, respectively, OBU still found themselves trailing, 2-1, headed into halftime.
Not finding much going forward, it took a dazzling full-field run by
Ruth King to spark OBU's resurgence. Picking up a cleared header by
Kelsey Bumgarner, King weaved through multiple defenders before firing home from the left wing to even the score at 2-2 with 61 minute eclipsed.
The Lady Bison dug deep in the final minutes of the match, pressing for the winning tally. Oklahoma Baptist finally found their breakthrough when White slid the ball to
Emmily Infante who took a touch before slotting it into the bottom left corner with just over a minute to play to seal the victory.
Emily Griffith picked up her fourth win of the season while collecting three saves.
Oklahoma Baptist (4-1) opens up Great American Conference play on Thursday, Sept. 21 when they face Ouachita Baptist at 2 p.m. in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
