Bison Shut Out SGU for Seniors

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist celebrated Senior Day and Strikeout Cancer with a 5-0 win over Shawnee rival St. Gregory's Tuesday.

Senior Blake Whitehead (4-1) got the win, allowing no runs through his five innings of work. Nick Burnham pitched three innings of no-hit relief and senior Brad Adams got the only batter he faced before a second round of lightning delays resulted in a called game.

The Bison struck first in the second inning on an RBI single by senior Joseph Moran.

Zane Gelphman homered to left for a 2-0 lead in the sixth.

Senior Dustyn Cook contributed an RBI double to bring in senior Kyle Abblitt in the seventh.

Josh Timms tripled in Juan Gonzalez and scored on an errant throw on the play for the final 5-0 margin.

Senior second baseman Kevin Olmeda turned in a nifty bare-handed grab and throw to first base for the final out registered this season at the OBU park.

OBU had 10 hits in the game, including two each by senior Hunter Heath, Cook and Timms. Abblitt added a double.

The game was the last on Bison Field at Ford Park for seniors Heath, Moran, Cook, Abblitt, Olmeda, Whitehead, Adams, Carson McPherson, Jinny Parra and Tyler Gibson.

OBU finishes off the regular season with three Great American Conference games this weekend at Southern Nazarene. The Bison are scheduled to play Friday at 3 p.m. and a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
