Bison Sweep SNU

BETHANY – Oklahoma Baptist scored twice in the top of the seventh to gain a sweep of a doubleheader at Southern Nazarene with a 5-4 win.
 
The Bison won the opener, 11-5.
 
OBU scored four times in the first inning of the opener, using a two-run single by Juan Gonzalez, a sacrifice fly by Hunter Heath and an RBI ground out by Nick Burnham.
 
SNU cut it to 4-2 but the Bison got both runs back on an RBI double by Brett Berghammer and a sacrifice fly by Zane Gelphman in the second.
 
Kevin Olmeda homered and Heath added an RBI single in the sixth for an 8-2 lead.
 
Josh Timms ripped a three-run home run in the eighth.
 
The Bison compiled 13 hits, including three by Berghammer and two each by Olmeda, Gonzalez, Timms and Heath.
 
Carson McPherson got the win. Jace Wilkins had a scoreless inning of relief.
 
OBU won with a little more drama in the second game.
 
SNU took a 2-0 lead in the first but the Bison got on the scoreboard in the second on an RBI ground out by Joseph Moran.
 
Timms doubled home a pair of runs for a 3-2 lead in the third, but SNU scored twice in the fourth for a 4-3 lead.
 
Dustyn Cook doubled to start the seventh inning and scored on a single by Olmeda to tie the score. With two outs, Olmeda scored on an error for the final margin.
 
The Bison had just six hits in the game, led by Timms with three and Olmeda with two.
 
Tyler Gibson got the win in relief, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings.
 
Weather permitting, the two teams will finish the series Saturday at 1 p.m.
