Bison Sweep Doubleheader vs. SOSU

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist swept the first two games of its series with Southeastern Oklahoma State Sunday, winning 7-1 and 3-2.
 
The Bison trailed 1-0 in the opener, but scored four times in the fifth inning and added three runs in the eighth.
 
Brett Berghammer doubled in a pair of runs, Zane Gelphman lifted a sacrifice fly and Josh Timms singled in a run for a 4-1 lead.
 
OBU's seventh included an RBI double by Nick Burnham and a dropped fly ball on which two runs scored.
 
The Bison collected 11 hits, including three by Hunter Heath and two each by Berghammer and Timms.
 
Carson McPherson shut the Savage Storm out for six innings after a first-inning run to get the win. He struck out 12 batters. Tyler Gibson collected a six-out save with three strikeouts in two hitless innings.
 
Zach Fowler gave up two unearned runs in the first inning of the second game, but OBU got those back in the home half with a sacrifice fly by Juan Gonzalez and an RBI single by Timms.
 
The Bison took a 3-2 lead in the third with an RBI double by Gonzalez.
 
OBU had seven hits, led by Gonzalez and Dustyn Cooks with two each.
 
Fowler went 6.2 innings to get the win, striking out six. Gibson got his second save, getting the final out with two runners aboard.
 
The Bison and Savage Storm return to action Monday at 1 p.m. at Bison Field for the series finale.
