ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist overcame a dramatic home run by Ouachita Baptist and claimed a 5-4 extra-inning win in its Great American Conference opener Friday.

The Bison had a one-run lead going to the top of the ninth and Ouachita Baptist got a runner aboard with one out.
Juan Gonzalez caught the runner stealing for the second out before Speers homered to tie the game.

OBU would get the winning run in the top of the 10
th when Joe Moran walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a
Kevin Olmeda single – all after two outs in the inning.

The Bison had taken a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by
Zane Gelphman and made it 3-1 with a two-run single by Gonzalez in the second.

OBU got its fourth run when Gonzalez doubled and eventually scored on a wild pitch in the fifth.
Â
Brad Adams (1-0) picked up the win in relief, striking out three in 1.1 innings.
Nick Burnham also tossed 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

The Bison had 11 hits, including three by Gonzalez and two by
Dustyn Cook.

Now 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the GAC, the Bison play a series-ending doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ouachita Baptist.
