ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist completed a road sweep at Ouachita Baptist to open Great American Conference baseball action Saturday.
OBU won the doubleheader 8-0 and 11-1 to take the series 3-0.
Jinny Parra (3-0) tossed a four-hit shutout with five strikeouts in the opener, going the full nine innings.
OBU gave him all the runs he needed with two in the third with an RBI double by
Brett Berghammer and an RBI single by
Juan Gonzalez.
OBU picked up three more in the fifth when Berghammer doubled and later scored on a balk.
Zane Gelphman added a two-run single.
Gelphman added an RBI double in the seventh and the Bison scored two in the eighth, using a two-run double by
Kyle Abblitt.
Zach Fowler took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of the scheduled seven-inning finale. Fowler relinquished two hits after two outs in the sixth and Ouachita tied the score, 1-1.
OBU had a 1-0 lead when Gelphman scored on a double play by Joe Moran.
The Bison answered the Tiger rally with a 10-run seventh.
Kevin Olmeda and
Hunter Heath and Berghammer had RBI singles, Berghammer and Gelphman added two-run singles, Olmeda added an RBI double and Moran got an RBI on a ground out.
Fowler picked up the win, going six innings and
Carson McPherson closed out the game with two strikeouts in the seventh.
Now 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the GAC, the Bison play at Bacone Tuesday at 2 before returning to GAC action Friday with a 1 p.m. home doubleheader with Henderson State.
