Bison Split at OC

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma Baptist split two games at Oklahoma Christian Saturday, losing the opener 7-6 before taking the series finale 10-4.
 
In the OBU win, OBU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second when Dustyn Cook got an RBI single and then scored as part of an attempted double steal.
 
OC tied the game in the fourth, but the Bison took a 3-2 lead in the fifth on an RBI single by Brett Berghammer.
 
After the Eagles took a 4-3 lead, the OBU grabbed the lead for good with a four-run sixth, including an RBI single by Zane Gelphman, who later scored on a wild pitch, and a two-run double by Kevin Olmeda.
 
Cook added an RBI single and OBU scored another run on an error in the eighth for a 9-4 lead.
 
Berghammer drove in his fourth run of the doubleheader on a ground out for the final 10-4 margin.
 
The Bison collected 15 hits in the game, led by Bob English with three and Cook, Juan Gonzalez, Josh Timms and Olmeda with two each.
 
Jinny Parra (2-0) got the win with five innings of work. Jace Wilkins pitched two scoreless innings of relief. Nick Burnham finished off with two hitless frames and three strikeouts.
 
OBU scored twice in the top of the first in the opener, getting an RBI double by Gonzalez and a run-scoring walk from Joe Moran.
 
OC made it 4-3 in the home half of the first, but OBU made it 4-3 with an RBI double by Berghammer in the second.
 
The Bison tied the game 5-5 in the fifth on Timms' first OBU home run and an RBI single by Berghammer.
 
OC took a 7-5 lead before Timms tripled and scored on a Kyle Abblitt sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh, but the Bison rally stopped there.
 
OBU had eight hits, including two each by Berghammer and Timms.
 
AJ Merkel took the loss in relief in a game in which OC scored four unearned runs. OBU had four errors.
 
The Bison start a five-game road trip Wednesday at Dallas Christian. The Bison open Great American Conference action next weekend at Ouachita Baptist.
