SHAWNEE – Following a third-place finish in the regular season, Oklahoma Baptist heads to Searcy, Arkansas, for the Great American Conference Tournament to take on No. 2-seeded Ouachita Baptist on Friday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. at the Stevens Soccer Complex.
Oklahoma Baptist (7-8-1, 3-3 GAC) and Ouachita (7-7-1, 4-3 GAC) have played each other about as evenly as possible. The two sides split the series in the regular season, 1-1, with both teams winning on the road by 1-0 scorelines. It's been two years since the teams met in the postseason, with OBU falling to the Tigers, 2-0, in the GAC Championship on Ouachita's home turf.
The Bison led the league with 31 goals, led by co-leading scorers
Thiago Dos Santos and
Luis Romero on six goals each. Dos Santos ranks second in total points (17) with a GAC-best five assists. Oklahoma Baptist has assisted 54.8 percent of their goals.
Opposite the OBU offense is an Ouachita defense that has shut down four teams and conceded a GAC-low 21 goals. Edward Pacheco leads the GAC with a 1.46 goals-against average and .775 save percentage while averaging 4.77 saves per match.
Defensively for the Bison, they've matched Ouachita's mark with four clean sheets on the year while giving up 29 goals through 16 outings.
Parker Lawter and
Thomas Ackerknecht have split time in goal for OBU, combining for a 1.76 GAA and .663 save percentage.
Tinashe Chigede has accounted for half of Ouachita's 24 goals this year. A pure goalscorer, he hasn't provided an assist all season, though seven of his 12 goals have been assisted on this season.
