SHAWNEE – A welcome break from conference play awaits Oklahoma Baptist men's soccer in the form of Peacocks from Upper Iowa. The Bison host UIU in the programs' first all-time meeting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19 at the OBU Soccer Complex.
Oklahoma Baptist (4-7-1, 2-3 GAC) dropped a pair of one-goal decisions last week, but are looking to get back on track with the first of two nonconference matches this week. Upper Iowa (5-6, 0-5 MIAA) have similarly fallen on hard times, losing five of their last six.
The Bison are led offensively by
Luis Romero with five goals this season, while
Thiago Dos Santos is second with four goals. As a team, OBU is averaging 1.92 goals per match on 16.1 shots, and own an assist rate of .522. In total, nine different Bison have found the back of the net this season.
Opposite the OBU offense is a Peacock defense giving up 15 shots and 1.82 goals per outing. Connor Rortvedt has started every match between the sticks for Upper Iowa, posting a 1.80 goals-against average and 60 saves this season.
With a defense giving up 1.92 goals, the Bison have been hard-pressed to find a winner in matches decided by one goal, losing all three contests.
Thomas Ackerknecht has started the last four matches for OBU, posting a .778 save percentage and 1.03 GAA.
Upper Iowa's offense is scoring just 1.27 goals per match, paced by Italo Martins Soares and Ruairdidh Crawford on three goals each. The Peacocks are only getting off 10.8 shots per contest.
