SHAWNEE – The Lady Bison of Oklahoma Baptist Women's Soccer are finally set to open their season when they welcome the Bronchos of Central Oklahoma to the OBU Soccer Complex on Monday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. Oklahoma Baptist was originally scheduled to start their season on Thursday, Sept. 1.
Â
The Lady Bison, who went 6-13 in 2015, will be without leading midfielder and All-Great American Conference performer
Maddie Windham following her graduation after last season.
Emmily Infante is primed to step into the role vacated by Windham, having scored three goals and one assist a season ago.
Markella Suka, who netted twice for OBU in 2015, and
Kerregan Edwards, who started all 17 matches last season and recorded one goal and one assist, return to lead the forward line.
Â
Defensively, the pairing of
Kenzi Bice and
Kayla Kendall should prove key to OBU's game plan. The pair combined for 23 starts in 2016.
Emma Beck, a mainstay in goal for the Lady Bison, returns for her final season between the sticks. Last season she posted a 2.13 goals-against average and .712 save percentage.
Â
Central Oklahoma has already played a match this season, dispatching Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Oklahoma, 3-1. Darla Hyde provides a spark off the bench for the Bronchos, having already scored two goals on the year. Katie Killion is the only other player for UCO to have found the back of the net. Ally Salls started UCO's first match of the year, picking up the win while save six of seven shots on goal.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist's next home match following Monday's tilt will be on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. when OBU takes on the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma at the OBU Soccer Complex.
