Match Notes |
SHAWNEE – There's no rest for the Oklahoma Baptist Men's Soccer team, as they return to the pitch just one day after opening their season with a rousing 4-2 win over in-state rival Oklahoma Christian. With a second win in as many days, the Bison would open their season with a 2-0 record for the first time since 2009. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the OBU Soccer Complex.
Vicente Castillo was back to his old ways on Thursday night, bagging two goals and forcing the error that led to an Oklahoma Christian own goal.
Josue De Paz also got in on the action, connecting on a free kick from
David Estrada.
Jacob Tunney and
Jonathan Martinez assisted on Castillo's goals.
Defensively, the backline shutdown the Eagles in the final 45 minutes, giving up just three shots in the second half.
Colin Spencer currently holds a .600 save percentage, and will look to lower his 2.00 goals-against average as the team looks for their first clean sheet of the season.
St. Mary's has yet to play in 2016, and will enter the game looking for a new leading goal-scorer following the graduation of their two top offensive threats last year. Juan Sanchez, a senior midfielder for the Rattlers, scored three goals last season and is the leading scorer among returning players. Jack Moore, who was StMU's primary starter in goal last year, returns for one more year after posting a 1.68 GAA and .680 save percentage in 2015.
The Bison will earn some much-deserved rest following the conclusion of tonight's match. Oklahoma Baptist won't play again until Thursday, Sept. 8 against Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City.
