SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist bounced back from one of its worst matches with a five-set win over 14
th-ranked Washburn Friday in the GAC-MIAA Crossover volleyball tournament.
OBU lost in four sets to Pittsburg State as the Gorillas picked up their first win of the season, 25-12, 19-25, 25-17, 25-23.
In that match,
Nicole Fleitman had 12 kills and
Kynnedy Myers added 32 assists.
Cadyn Laing added five blocks and
Shekinah Sharpe led with 17 digs, followed by
Sierra VeraCruz with 15 and
Darby Maclea with 12.
Things weren't going well for the Lady Bison in the nightcap, falling behind two sets to none with 25-20 and 26-24 setbacks.
OBU, however, turned things around and finished each of the last three sets on a flurry.
The Lady Bison scored the final four points in set 3 for a 25-29 win, including a kill by Myers and a block by Laing and Sharpe.
OBU then scored the final three points of the fourth set with Fleitman getting a kill, then working with Laing on a block before an
Adonica Wright kill sent the match to the fifth set with a 25-19 victory.
With the score tied 12-12 in the decisive set, OBU got a kill by Fleitman and a block by
Taylor Williams before an Ichabod error ended the match, 15-12.
Fleitman had 14 kills while Sharpe added 13 and Laing 10 as Myers piled up 43 assists.
VeraCurz had 31 digs, while Sharpe added 18 and Maclea 14. Laing had five blocks with Sharpe adding four and Williams three.
Now 5-7, the Lady Bison continue in the tournament against Southwest Baptist at 9 a.m. and Emporia State at 3 p.m., Saturday.
