RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Junior midfielder
Jonathan Martinez has been named the Great American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the GAC office announced Tuesday afternoon. Martinez is the second Bison to garner the award in as many weeks. It is the first time Martinez has earned GAC Player of the Week honors.
Â
Martinez, a native of Medellin, Colombia, scored two goals last week in a match against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, OBU's first win over the Drovers since 2010. The junior scored the first goal of the match against USAO after
Vicente Castillo squared him the ball at the top of the box, while his second score came via a header from
Jesus Andrade's corner kick in the final minutes of the match. For the week, Martinez converted at a .333 clip.
Â
The mdfielder currently ranks second in the GAC in points with five (2g, 1a), only trailing forward running mate Castillo. Martinez is also one of just two players in the GAC to have recorded a multi-goal match this season.
Â
Martinez and the Bison return to the pitch tonight for a match against Southwestern Christian at the OBU Soccer Complex at 7 p.m.
