SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist used a sterling pitching performance and a walk-off walk to sweep Northwestern Oklahoma State Sunday, 8-0 and 10-9.
Carson McPherson and Brad Adams combined for a two-hit shutout of the Rangers in the opener. McPherson (4-0) struck out 11 and took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Adams pitched the last two innings, checking NWOSU on one hit.
The Bison broke a scoreless tie in the third as Kevin Olmeda singled, moved to second on a walk and stole third before scoring on a Hunter Heath grounder.
OBU added three in the fourth on a three-run double by Brandon Cuddy to make it 4-0.
OBU added two in the sixth on Olmeda's first home run as a Bison, depositing the ball in the visitor's bullpen in right.
Olmeda tripled in a run in the eighth and scored on an error.
The Bison had eight hits in the game, led by Olmeda with three.
The Rangers scored twice in the first inning of the second game with RBI singles by Xyruse Martinez and Matt Benn.
OBU answered with a four-run first on a three-run double by Ryan Joyce, who eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Three more Bison runs scored in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Abblitt and a two-run single by Cuddy.
Northwestern scored four times in the sixth on a two-run triple by Martinez and a two-run home run by Benn.
OBU tacked on two in the home half with a two-run double by Heath.
Thomas Bess tripled in two Rangers and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game in the top of the seventh.
OBU won the extra-inning game in the bottom of the eighth when Austin Cooper drew a bases-loaded walk. The Bison scored without a hit, getting three walks and an error in the inning.
Mike Gould picked up the win in relief to move to 5-0.
The Bison had nine hits, including two apiece by Olmeda, Joseph Moran and Cody Ziegler.
Now 19-6 on the season and 11-4 in the Great American Conference, the Bison play at St. Gregory's at 3 p.m. Tuesday before taking to the road to play Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford Friday and Saturday.
