Bison Split at Monticello

MONTICELLO, Arkansas – Oklahoma Baptist split two games at Arkansas-Monticello in Great American Conference baseball action Saturday, losing 5-2 before salvaging a series split with a 7-5 win.

The Bison went down 3-0 after three innings in the opener before the Bison got a two-run home run in the fourth by Hunter Heath.

The Boll Weevils got those runs back though with two in the seventh.

OBU had eight hits, including two by Brandon Cuddy, who had a double and a single.

Nathan Thompson (2-2) took the loss. Chad Bennett pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief.

The Bison took the second game 7-5 after falling behind 3-0 through four innings.

OBU scored four in the fifth inning on a two-run single by Trevor Ezell and a two-run double by Heath.

OBU tacked on three more runs in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk by Cuddy and a two-run single by Joseph Moran.

Mike Gould (2-0) got the win with three innings of relief work.

The Bison collected a dozen hits, including three by Dustyn Cook and two each by Ezell and Austin Cooper.

Now 10-4 on the season and 3-3 in the Great American Conference, the Bison host Bacone in a 5 p.m. game Monday.
