SHAWNEE – Vicente Castillo earned Great American Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors for the second straight year, and Michael Stewart is the GAC Freshman of the Year, the league announced Thursday night at the annual awards banquet.

Stewart, a defender from Tulsa, Okla., scored one goal and assisted on two goals this season. He helped anchor a defense that allowed just 17 goals after halftime all season, and earned All-GAC Second Team honors.

In addition to Castillo, four other Bison were named to the All-GAC First Team. Forward Thiago Dos Santos, midfielders Jesus Andrade and Jonathan Martinez, and defender David Estrada each earned first team honors.

Dos Santos is a native of Natal, Brazil, and finished with eight goals on the season, the second-most on the team. Three of the freshman's goals were match winners. Andrade, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, paced the Bison with six assists and also scored two goals.

A sophomore native of Medellin, Colombia, Martinez finished with four goals and four assists, and helped lock down opponents on defense in 17 starts. Estrada earned GAC Defensive Player of the Week honors twice this season. The sophomore from Cancun, Mexico, anchored a defense that posted five straight shutouts, the longest streak in program history.

Three Oklahoma Baptist players were named to the All-GAC Second Team, including Stewart, Luis Romero, and Matthew Giudice. Romero, a sophomore forward from Zaragoza, Spain, scored five goals on just 14 shots this season. Giudice, a native of Edmond, Okla., also scored five goals this season. The senior also earned GAC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season.

Andrew Thomsen was named a Crafton Tull Distinguished Scholar Student-Athlete for the second year. The graduate student from Midwest City, Okla., was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team.
