SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist men's soccer faces Central Christian Thursday at 7 p.m. in the NCCAA Central Region Semifinals. The postseason tournament is hosted by Colorado Christian in Lakewood, Colorado.
Â
The Bison were crowned Great American Conference regular season champions this season and finished runner-up in the GAC Tournament. OBU enters the regional as the two seed, and are ranked No. 8 in the NCCAA national poll.
Â
Southwestern Christian received the top seed in the regional, with Central Christian taking the three seed. The Bison have faced both of these opponents this season, falling to SCU 1-3 in the fifth match of the season while defeating CCC 3-2 in October. Southwestern Assemblies of God earned the four seed, and host-school Colorado Christian rounds out the field as the five seed.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist is led by two-time GAC Offensive Player of the Year
Vicente Castillo. He has scored 11 goals and assisted on five more this season. Freshman
Thiago Dos Santos is tied with Castillo as the team goals leader, with
Jesus Andrade and
Jonathan Martinez pacing the Bison with six assists each.
Â
Anchoring a back line that has allowed just 37 goals this season is All-GAC First Team selection
David Estrada.
Colin Spencer has started 10 matches in goal and enters the regional with a 2.10 goals-allowed average and a .646 save percentage.
Â
Should the Bison advance past the Tigers, they will face the winner of the other semifinal match between Southwestern Christian and the victor between SAGU and CCU. The Central Region Championship is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start on Friday.
Â
A regional championship would automatically advance the Bison to the NCCAA National Championship in Kissimmee, Florida. OBU could also qualify by earning an at-large bid.Â
