WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Ninety minutes was not enough to decide the outcome Saturday when Oklahoma Baptist faced Southwestern Oklahoma State in a road Great American Conference match. The Lady Bison fell 3-2 to the Bulldogs in overtime.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist kept pace with SWOSU's high octane offense, answering each of the Bulldogs' first two goals to force extra time. Shelley Mueller scored off a rebound following a free kick in the third minute of the overtime period to seal the match in favor of SWOSU.
Â
After giving up just one goal off a penalty kick before halftime,
Jennifer Goethe had the equalizer for the Lady Bison off a corner kick in the 56th minute of the match. It was the first goal of the season for Goethe. The Bulldogs took back the lead 13 minutes later on another successful penalty kick opportunity.
Â
Ruth King tied up the match at 2-2 with an unassisted goal in the 82nd minute to send the match to overtime, her fifth goal of the season.
Â
The offense was efficient for OBU, finding the net twice on just five shots on goal. It was the fourth consecutive match that Oklahoma Baptist has scored multiple goals.
Â
Emma Beck faced 10 shots, making seven saves against the GAC's top offense. The young Lady Bison defense was solid, anchored by Goethe.
Â
OBU, now 6-4, will kick off the second leg of GAC play on the road when they face Ouachita in Arkadelphia, Arkansas this Wednesday, Oct. 12. The Lady Bison fell 0-1 in overtime when the two teams met in Shawnee earlier this season.
