Bison Sweep GAC Men's Soccer Awards

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist again swept the Great American Conference weekly awards as Vicente Castillo won the Offensive award, Matthew Giudice claimed the Defender honor and Thomas Ackerneckt repeated as the top Goalkeeper.

This marks the second time in three weeks that Bison players claimed honors in all three spots, and is the third time this year that an OBU team has swept the weekly conference awards.

Castillo scored his seventh goal of the season when he found the back of the net in the third minute of the 4-0 triumph against Southern Nazarene. In a 3-0 win against Jarvis Christian, he scored the second goal of the game, in the 52nd minute, off of a feed to the middle of the box.

In the 4-0 win against Southern Nazarene, Giudice shut down the Crimson Storm's leading scorer, Alan Armstrong, by holding him to just one shot, none on goal. He made a 20-yard recovery run to block a breakaway shot by Freddy DiNang to preserve OBU's second straight shutout.

Ackernecht improved to 3-0 against GAC opponents as he made four saves in a 4-0 victory against Southern Nazarene. He improved his save percentage to .857 and lowered his goals-against average to 1.00. He has not allowed a goal in his last 182:10 in net.
