Boll Weevils Outlast Bison, 80-72

Arkansas-Monticello outscored Oklahoma Baptist 26-10 at the free throw line and captured an 80-72 win in the Noble Complex Saturday.

The Boll Weevils shot 90 percent from the free throw line – all in the second half – while the Bison struggled to a 10-for-17 59 percent afternoon.

That ironically came on the day the Bison shot a season-best 52 percent from the field.

OBU led 38-32 at the half, knocking down 58 percent of its field goal tries in the half.

The Bison defense was sharp at times, but surrendered 13 offensive rebounds.

"Rebounding was our Achilles heel today," said OBU Coach Quinn Wooldridge. "You can't have 25 seconds of defensive intensity then go fall asleep once the ball is up."

Vladimir Nemcok led the Bison with 19 points and eight assists while Steven Green added 18 points. Chandler Rickey contributed 11 points and a team-best nine rebounds while Tomotis Kuckailis added eight points and eight rebounds.

Jamal Peterson scored 26 points and Richard Benedyth added 254 for UAM.

Now 5-5 on the season and 1-5 in the GAC, the Bison play at Southeastern Oklahoma State Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
