Southeastern Holds Off Bison

DURANT – Despite a furious finish, Oklahoma Baptist dropped its third straight, falling to Southeastern Oklahoma State Thursday, 76-69.

Southeastern led by as many as 25 points in the second half.


OBU couldn't overcome a poor first-half performance despite a career-scoring night by Steven Green, who finished with 31 points. Green also led the team with seven rebounds.

The Savage Storm dominated the first half, 40-22, out-rebounding the Bison 30-12 by intermission. Southeastern had 12 offensive rebounds in the first half to overshadow Green's 11-point first half.

Southeastern started the second half on an 10-3 run to punch the lead up to 25 points with 15 minutes left.

Green and Tyler Lester hit three-pointers to knock the lead down to 56-42 midway through the second half. That tandem repeated the feat to cut the lead to 62-50 with 5:32 left in the game.

Timotis Kuckailis scored inside to make it a 64-53 game with 4:30 remaining.

A steal and a basket by Green and a layup by Sigourney Jackson cut the SOSU advantage to 71-62 with 27 seconds left. After the Bison forced a five-second inbound call, Jackson got to the free throw line to cut the lead to 71-64 with 21 seconds to go.

Southeastern got a free throw but Green answered with a triple to make it 72-67 with 14 seconds left. Chandler Rickey scored with seconds left to make it 73-69.

OBU won the second half 47-36. For the game, Southeastern was 18 of 26 from the free throw line, compared to a 9-for-12 outing by the Bison.

The Bison finish the weekend with a 3 p.m. tip Saturday at East Central.
