WEATHERFORD – Oklahoma Baptist shot 21 percent on 38 three-point attempts and lost to Southwestern Oklahoma State, 84-77 at the Pioneer Event Center Saturday.
McKenzie Cooper connected on six of 19 three-point tries and the rest of the team was 0-17 from the arc until Katy Custer connected for two three-pointers in the final 32 seconds of the game.
In the first half, OBU was able to find Arielle Cooper for 10 points and in the first quarter and McKenzie Cooper for nine in the second, but an inability to close out either quarter saw OBU trailing by four at the half.
Southwestern out-scored OBU 4-0 in the final 25 seconds of the first quarter and 4-0 in the last 11 seconds of the second quarter to gain a 41-37 halftime edge.
Through the first three quarters, OBU was 0-5 from the field with one turnover in their possessions with under 30 seconds to play in the quarter.
McKenzie Cooper led OBU with 20 points, followed by Arielle Cooper with 17 and Custer with 15. Arielle Cooped led the Lady Bison with nine rebounds before fouling out. Kiara Moore contributed five assists and Custer picked up four steals.
Jade Jones scored 16 to lead Southwestern while Janae Coffee added 10 points and 13 rebounds.
OBU returns to action Thursday at Ouachita Baptist to start a two-game stay in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
