OBU Takes ECU in Four

Oklahoma Baptist shook off a third-set loss and closed out a 3-1 win over East Central Tuesday to keep an unblemished Great American Conference record at 4-0 in the volleyball standings.

OBU and Arkansas Tech are the lone two unbeaten teams in the conference race, both at 4-0.

Cat Roth led OBU with 10 kills with Priscila Mendes adding eight. Kynnedy Myers had 29 assists and Kate Decker had four aces – all in succession in the fourth set win.

Kaitly Lucy led the defensive side for OBU with 24 digs while Denise Coroiescu and Kate Decker added 10 apiece. Myers and Roth led the front line with four block assists each.

OBU scored nine unanswered points in a 12-1 run to establish a 13-3 lead in the first set. Two kills by Mendes and a kill and a block by Nichole Fleitman highlighted that spree. OBU cruised on to the win from there.

The Lady Bison blew open the second set with two aces by Lucy and kills by Decker and Coroiescu during a 4-0 run for a 24-14 lead – matching the largest of the set for OBU, which won 25-15.

East Central battled to a 25-23 win in the third set and led 21-20 in the fourth set before OBU flexed one more time and ended the match with a five-point string, including kills by Fleitman and Roth and three ECU errors.

The 9-7 Lady Bison return to action Thursday in Weatherford against Southwestern Oklahoma State. First serve is 7 p.m.
