Oklahoma Baptist captured its first Great American Conference volleyball match Tuesday, knocking off Northwestern Oklahoma State in three sets in Alva.

The Lady Bison won it 25-20, 25-18, 25-21.

Priscila Mendes led OBU with 12 kills with Carey Strong adding 11. Kynnedy Myers added 28 assists.

Defensively, OBU got 20 digs from Kaitlyn Lucy, 12 from Denise Coroiescu and 11 from Myers.

The Lady Bison trailed briefly in all three sets. OBU was down 17-16 in the opener before getting a 6-0 run, which included four kills by Nicole Fleitman, and put OBU ahead 22-17. OBU closed it out from there.

In the second set, the Lady Bison saw a 16-8 lead whittled down to 19-18 before closing out the set on a 6-0 run. That streak was highlighted by a kill and ace by Cat Roth and a kill and block by Myers.

OBU quelled a Northwestern rally in the third set that saw the Rangers get within a 22-20 score, using a Roth kill and ace and a kill by Mendes.

The Rangers (2-6 overall, 0-1 in the GAC) were led by Nora To'omalatai with 13 kills.

Now 5-5 on the season and 1-0 in the GAC, the Lady Bison head to the MIAA/GAC Crossover in St. Joseph, Missouri, this weekend. OBU takes on Missouri Western at 4 p.m., Friday. The Lady Bison play No. 15 Nebraska-Kearney at 10 a.m., Saturday, before finishing the stay with Northwest Missouri at 4 p.m.
