RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Oklahoma Baptist's first football trip in 85 years to Arkansas Tech was a forgettable one for the Bison, coming home with a rough 50-7 loss Saturday.
"Definitely a little bit different than we evaluated on film and we ran into a buzz saw of misfortunate things that happened. We're very disappointed, but all we can do now is prepare to win again," said OBU Coach
Chris Jensen.
The Wonder Boys were stopped just twice in the first half, one drive ending in a punt and the second with the halftime horn. Arkansas Tech had 368 yards in the first half with Arsenio Favor threw for 259 yards and rushed for another 23 in the first half. Favor ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more in the first half.
"We didn't get enough pressure on the quarterback early," Jensen said.
Favor connected with Henry Wesley for a 53-yard scoring pass to get things going. Favor later ran for a one-yard score and threw a touchdown pass to Jabyes Cross for a 20-0 lead in the first quarter.
Eric Perez started the second quarter scoring with a 19-yard field goal and Favor had short scoring runs to sandwich a 2-yard scoring run by Thompson for a 43-0 lead at halftime.
Michael Perry scored from 17 yards out for a 50-0 lead to start things in the third quarter.
OBU was stymied on three plays from inside the three late in the third quarter as Tech's defense rose to preserve the shutout.
An interception by
Jailen Garrett set up another opportunity in the fourth quarter and
Jacob Ellis punched the ball in from a yard out to punctuate a 10-play, 40-yard drive. Ellis rushed for 27 yards in the drive.
Defensively for the Bison, Garrett had an interception and 13 tackles and
Levi Jennings had 2.5 tackles for loss among his eight tackles.

Nic Shegog added eight.
