KISSIMMEE, Florida - Oklahoma Baptist senior
Kaitlyn Lucy set a new OBU record for most digs in a single season in a 3-2 victory over fifth-seeded Warner (Fla.), during pool play of the
NCCAA National Championship Thursday afternoon.
The fourth-seeded Lady Bison dropped the first two sets to the NAIA opponent, but rallied back to take the final three in convincing fashion. Final scores for the match were 19-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-13, 15-7.
Lucy entered the match needing just 26 digs to break the school record for most digs in a season and collected 28 in the win, eclipsing
Cami Weimer's mark of 878 set in 2011.
After taking the third and fourth sets by a combined 20 points, the Lady Bison scored the first six points in the decisive fifth set and stretched the lead to as much as eight points while taking the set by that margin.
Cat Roth paced OBU with 15 kills and 4.5 blocks,
Kate Decker added 14 kills and 15 digs, and
Carey Strong finished with 11 kills and 15 digs for the Lady Bison. Freshman setter
Kynnedy Myers had 50 assists in the five-set victory.
OBU will face eighth-seeded Lincoln Christian at 5 p.m. Central later this evening.
