SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist women's track and field team posted 15 wins at its annual OBU Invitational over the weekend. The Bison also traveled to the ESU Relays on Thursday and represented well.
OBU INVITATIONAL
Jamora Horace turned in a career day on Saturday, winning the high jump and placing second in the triple jump. Horace recorded a personal-best clearance of 1.69m (5-6.5), a NCAA DII provisional and the nation's 14
th-best mark.
In the triple jump, she crushed her previous PR (10.84m, 35-6.75) with a leap of 11.29m (37.5).
Anisha Henderson's mark of 5.92m (19-5.25) won the long jump and earned a provisional mark as the 13
th-furthest leap in the DII.
Elisabeth Jones trailed in fourth at 5.60m (18-4.5).
Henderson added another win in the triple jump after a personal-best mark of 11.72m (38-5.5).
Payton Hufford and
Zoee Weaver posted first-place marks in their respective events, the pole vault (3.10m, 10-2), and the javelin (34.59m, 113-6). It was their first time to claim top honors in their careers.
Karli Platte led OBU's multi-participants with a fifth-place finish after racking up 3,363 points over seven events. Four third-place marks highlighted Platte's performance in the heptathlon: 800m (2:43.17), javelin (25.92m, 85-0), shot put (7.37m (24-2.25), and 100m hurdles (15.47).
Olivia Tate's 11.83 won the 100m, ahead of
Delaney Riekert's 12.01 that finished second.
Kyndall Hicks and
Elisabeth Jones claimed the top two spots in the 100m hurdles, crossing at 14.46 and 14.94. Hicks added another win in the 400m hurdles with a PR of 1:04.96.
Riekert picked up a win in the 200m at 24.52, ahead of Tate (2
nd, 24.80) and
De'ja Rose (3
rd, 24.89).
Mekenzie Connell registered top honors in the 800m (2:14.48), before claiming another first-place finish in the 1500m (4:41.20).
McKayla Schmitt won the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:56.66, while
Kimberly McKinney claimed second in the 400m (58.91).
Sophia Strange out-ran the competition with a winning time of 17:32.90 in the 5000m.
OBU's 4x100 and 4x400 relay squads won their events with times of 46.67 and 3:56.31.
The 4x100 quartet of
Kelechi Christian, Riekert, Rose, and Tate turned in the 28
th-best time in Division II. The 4x400 team included Riekert, McKinney, Hicks, and Christian.
ESU RELAYS
On Thursday,
Jade Byrd highlighted OBU's efforts in Kansas with a third-place finish in the hammer – 50.83m (166-9). She added a fourth-place mark in the discus (48.04m, 157-7), which met the NCAA DII provisional standard and ranks as the third-furthest hurl in the nation.
Flora Dupans also registered a couple of top-10 marks in the shot put and discus. She took fourth in the shot put with a heave of 13.78m (45-2.5) before claiming sixth in the discus (46.36m, 152-1).
