Leon Boyd

Boyd joined the Bison Track & Field staff as an assistant coach in the summer of 2023. He primarily coaches jumpers.

Boyd came to Oklahoma Baptist after spending two seasons at Greenville University coaching horizontal and vertical jump athletes. During his stint in Illinois, Boyd helped the Panthers capture four SLIAC Indoor Conference titles on the men's and women's sides.

Boyd saw one of his multi-athletes make an appearance at the NCAA Division III indoor and outdoor championships in 2022, and three qualify for the 2023 outdoor meet. He sent participants for the women's heptathlon, women's long jump, and men's high jump. While at GU, Boyd aided the men's and women's teams to three consecutive trips to the NCAA indoor and outdoor meets.

Prior to his stop at Greenville, Boyd was the assistant coach at Keiser University in West Palm Beach, Fla., during the 2020-21 season. Specializing in jumps, Boyd guided two male jumpers to first-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump at the Sun Conference Championships.

Boyd graduated from Wayland Baptist in 2019 with a Bachelor of Applied Science-Justice Administration. He spent one season as a student assistant coach under current OBU head coach Brian Whitlock.

Boyd built quite the athletic resume at Wayland, specializing in jumps. From 2017-19, he was a two-time triple jump NAIA National Champion and seven-time long jump All-American. His career-best marks were 7.65m (25-1) in the long jump and 15.61m (51-2) in the triple jump. At the conclusion of the 2018 season, Boyd was named the South Central Region track and field Male Athlete of the Year.

Before competing at Wayland, Boyd began his athletic career at Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kan. He was crowned the Region VI KJCCC Indoor Conference champion in the triple jump and was a four-time All-American.

A native of Orlando, Fla., Boyd is a 2014 graduate of Maynard Evans High school. He ended an illustrious prep career by capturing the 2014 FHSAA 4A State Championship in both the long and triple jump.
