Taggart Brown was named quarterbacks coach at Oklahoma Baptist in March 2021. He enters his fourth season on Bison Hill.
The quarterback room has produced outstanding numbers under Brown's supervision the past three seasons. During his tenure, the offense has thrown for over 8,400 yards, 80 touchdowns, and 1,102 completions. Additionally, they've set over 10 school records and have either led or finished top five in passing yards in the Great American Conference.
A season ago (2023), the Bison racked up 2,489 yards (226.3/gm), third-most in the GAC. They added 214 completions and 22 touchdowns with a 53.4 percent completion rate. Quarterback Aidan Thompson threw for 1,767 yards on 165 completions, and recorded the third-most passing touchdowns in the league. This production paced OBU to six wins and the best home record in program history (4-1).Â
A year prior, dealing with a multitude of injuries, Brown's squad posted another 2,000-yard season, led by Dayton Wolfe's 1,419-yard contribution.Â
In 2021, Oklahoma Baptist had led the GAC in passing yards (3,435 - 286.3/gm), passing touchdowns (41), and ranked third in the country in completions (322).Â
Additionally, the offense set a new school record for first downs (313), which was the fifth-most in the country, and was second in the GAC in red zone passing touchdowns (27). Preston Haire garnered the GAC's Offensive Player of the Year award before being named a Don Hansen All-American and D2CCA second team All-Region honoree.Â
Brown began his coaching career as an offensive student assistant at Oklahoma State in 2018. During his time at OSU, the Cowboys had three bowl game appearances, including the Music City Bowl, Texas Bowl, and Cheez-It Bowl.
In 2019, Brown received his Bachelor of Science in Applied Exercise Science concentrating in Strength and Conditioning from OSU with a minor in Coaching Science.
A native of Enid, Oklahoma, Brown played football, baseball, and ran track at Chisholm High School. He was a captain for two years and helped the Longhorns make the playoffs for the first time in 11 years. Brown was a state all-star and district MVP.
