Cody Painter has helped oversee one of the most successful stretches in Oklahoma Baptist baseball history since joining the Bison coaching staff in 2015. Serving as associate head coach, recruiting coordinator and a key developer of both pitchers and catchers, Painter has played a major role in establishing OBU as a perennial conference, regional and national contender.
During Painter's tenure, Oklahoma Baptist has captured two NCCAA National Championships, won the 2019 Great American Conference Tournament Championship and produced 62 All-Conference honorees, 49 All-Region selections and 27 All-America honors. His players have also earned five major conference awards while five Bison have been selected in the Major League Baseball Draft and 15 have gone on to play professional baseball.
As recruiting coordinator, Painter has helped attract and develop many of the most accomplished players in program history. His impact can be found throughout the OBU record book, including five of the top 10 individual single-season strikeout performances in school history. In addition, the program's career leaders in victories and innings pitched developed under his guidance.
Painter's work with OBU catchers has been equally instrumental to the program's success. Since 2015, Bison catchers have earned All-Conference, All-Region and All-America recognition while helping lead championship teams and postseason runs. Garrett Gallacher, Juan Gonzalez, Ramon Enriquez, Alex Schroeder and Troy Shields are among the standouts who developed under Painter's guidance. That group includes multiple All-Americans, All-Region performers and conference award winners, highlighted by Shields earning GAC Player of the Year honors in 2024.
Painter has also helped develop one of the premier pitching traditions in the region. Five of the top 10 single-season strikeout performances in program history have come during his tenure, while numerous pitchers have earned All-conference, All-Region and All-America recognition. His players have established school and conference records while advancing to professional baseball, including Major League hurler Taylor Hearn.
Painter's work with OBU catchers has been equally instrumental to the program's success. Since 2015, Bison catchers have earned 15 All-Conference honors, 13 All-Region selections and eight All-America honors. Garrett Gallacher, Juan Gonzalez, Ramon Enriquez, Alex Schroeder and Troy Shields are among the standouts who developed under Painter's guidance, highlighted by Shields earning Great American Conference Player of the Year honors in 2024.
Prior to arriving at Oklahoma Baptist, Painter served as recruiting coordinator and graduate assistant at the University of Central Oklahoma from 2012-14. He was also an assistant coach for the Florence RedWolves of the Coastal Plain League in 2013 and spent time coaching Oklahoma high school summer teams. More than 30 players he coached at the high school level went on to sign with NCAA Division I programs.
A graduate of Oklahoma Christian Academy in Edmond, OK, Painter earned an Associate of Science degree from Clarendon College in 2010, a Bachelor of University Studies degree from Oklahoma State University in 2012 and a Master's degree in Secondary Education from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2014.
Painter and his wife, Candace, reside in Harrah with their daughters, Sadie and Kinslee.
