SHAWNEE – Rylee Unruh tallied 16 kills as #24 Oklahoma Baptist volleyball earned a 3-0 sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma State in its Great American Conference opener on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at the Noble Complex.

The Bison (8-2, 1-0 GAC) used a balanced attack to pick up their fourth-straight win over the Savage Storm (4-5, 0-1 GAC). Mackenzie Frazee chipped in with nine kills, while Melody Donegan added seven of her own. Shelby Jabour had 10 digs and OBU finished with seven aces while holding Southeastern to none.

In the first set, Oklahoma Baptist would score the first three points before the Savage Storm rallied to tie things at 11-11. That's when the Bison scored six in a row to grab a 17-11 lead en route to a 25-18 first-set victory. 

The second set proved to be the closest of the night as Southeastern grabbed a 20-19 lead late in the set. OBU responded with four points in a row to take a 23-21 lead, and M. Frazee put things away with an emphatic kill to give the Bison a 2-0 match lead.

The third set was back and forth early on before the Savage Storm grabbed a 15-12 lead, but the Bison were able to rally back to take the lead and end the match on Reese Renfrow's kill to give them a 25-21 third-set win.

Unruh led all players in kills and also picked up 10 digs, her fourth double-double performance of the year. She also had two service aces, as did Ellie Gehrke and Lauren Safrit. Emily Boyer tallied 34 assists and the Bison outhit the Savage Storm .202 to .188.

NOTES

• Unruh pushed her career kill total to 990, and needs just 10 more kills to get to 1,000 for her career. She already passed 1,000 career digs last week.
• Boyer added one more ace to her career total (133) and needs just five more to become OBU's record holder for career aces. 
• OBU head coach Anna Howle now sits at 444 career wins, needing just six more to hit 450 for her career.
• The Bison are now 22-3 all-time against Southeastern, and have won 18 of the last 19 meetings against the Savage Storm.
• OBU has swept Southeastern in four-straight and 10 of the last 11 meetings.
• Oklahoma Baptist is now 159-45 inside the Noble Complex, including a 42-11 mark over the last five years.
