SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist women's soccer team is set for another non-conference matchup this week. This time, the Newman Jets from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) comes to Bison Hill for a Sept. 9 match starting at 6 p.m.
This will be the third all-time contest against the Jets. The Bison won in 2015, 2-1, and then won again at the start of the 2017 season by the same score.
OKB enters this match, its fourth straight at home, with a 0-3 record while Newman brings a 0-2-2 mark. Below are notes on both teams.
For the Bison:
In last week's matches, the green and gold fell 4-0 to UT Dallas and 2-1 to Central Oklahoma in a game that the Bronchos scored the game-winning goal with two seconds left.
Hope White scored the Bison's goal versus UCO while
Clara Martin assisted. Through a trio of matches, that's the only goal OKB has tallied.
Offensive struggles have been pervasive so far. The Bison are sixth out of seven GAC teams in shots on goal per game (2.0) and seventh in shot accuracy (.333). They are also sixth in points (3).
White leads the team with two SOG this season while Martin and
Addison Gray have tallied four shots overall.
In goal,
Makenzie Christian, a freshman, is fourth in the conference averaging 5.0 saves per game. She's reached that save total in both matches last week.
For the Jets:
Newman started the year with a pair of ties but has lost its last two games, a 3-1 defeat to SWOSU and 4-0 loss at home against Oklahoma Christian.
Goalkeeper Emma Lintecum has notched a 1.00 goals against average, 17 saves and .895 save percentage so far. Those two latter statistics rank top-three in the MIAA.
Sophomore Aleksah Moreno leads the team with two goals and an assist.
As a team, though, Newman ranks 12th in the MIAA in shots on goal (2.25) and 13th in total shots per game (4.75).
