SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist (1-4) opens Great American Conference play on Wednesday, traveling to Southwestern Oklahoma State (2-1-3) for a 5 p.m. match.
This series has been fierce. In 28 prior matchups, SWOSU has 13 victories, OBU possesses 11 and there have been four ties. Over the last six matches, each team has won a trio of times.
For the Bison, they are coming off a 5-1 road loss to Emporia State on Sept. 14. As for the Bulldogs, they lost to Central Oklahoma on Sept. 12 by a 2-0 tally. It should be noted that Southwestern did defeat Emporia 3-1 in Weatherford about two weeks ago.
Below are notes on both teams.
For the Bison:
Hali White and
Camden Ocheskey were named GAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week on Sept. 15.
Those honors came after OBU's 2-0 win over Newman in which both ladies scored goals while Ocheskey helped the Bison defense to a shutout win.
For Ocheskey, a sophomore, she's one off the GAC lead with two goals this fall. Plus, she ranks tied for third with four points.
Freshman goalie
Makenzie Christian, who has saved at least five shots in four previous appearances, is second in the league with 6.0 saves per match.
As a team, though, the Bison rank sixth out of seven league schools with 16 goals allowed. Offensively, the team is fourth in shots on goal (4.40) and total goals scored (4).
For the Bulldogs:
SWOSU is the GAC leader with nine goals scored and five assists. They are also second in goals allowed (7).
Three different players have scored multiple goals: Kinsey Geasland (3; GAC leader) Braelee Epp (2) and Sarahi Delgadillo (2).
In the goalie's box, Emma Young ranks second in the conference with a 1.17 goals against average and .762 save percentage.
After scoring nine goals in the opening four matches, SWOSU has been shut out in its last two contests against Missouri Western and UCO.
