Volleyball Returns to GAC Action at Southwestern Oklahoma State

SHAWNEE – After wrapping up non-conference action a week ago, Oklahoma Baptist volleyball returns to conference action when it heads to GAC rival Southwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Pioneer Event Center in Weatherford, OK. 

The Bison (9-4, 1-0 GAC) are coming off a 2-2 record last week which included a win over Southeastern Oklahoma State in the GAC opener (Sept. 8) and a victory over Fort Hays State (Sept. 10) in the GAC-MIAA Crossover.

The Bulldogs, (7-5, 1-0) also went 2-2 last week with a win over conference foe Southern Nazarene (Sept. 8), followed by a win over Drury (Sept. 11) and losses to Missouri-St. Louis (Sept. 11) and then #4 Washburn (Sept. 12) at the Ichabod Classic.

BACK TO GAC PLAY

  • Oklahoma Baptist returns to Great American Conference play Tuesday after completing a 1-2 showing at the GAC-MIAA Crossover.
  • The Bison opened conference play with a three-set victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Sept. 8.
  • OBU enters Tuesday at 9-4 overall and 1-0 in the GAC, while Southwestern Oklahoma State is 7-5 and 1-0 after defeating Southern Nazarene in its conference opener.
  • Tuesday's match features the two programs that met in the 2025 GAC Tournament championship match.

BACK TO WEATHERFORD

  • OBU will make its first trip to Weatherford since falling to SWOSU in four sets on Nov. 4, 2025.
  • Southwestern won that match 25-15, 25-18, 14-25 and 25-15. OBU hit .076, its lowest mark of the 2025 season, while holding the Bulldogs to .175.
  • Rylee Unruh led OBU with 12 kills and 12 digs in last year's road meeting. Emily Boyer recorded 16 assists, while Addison Dale added seven kills.
  • OBU answered that loss later in November by sweeping Southwestern in the GAC Tournament championship match.

CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH

  • Oklahoma Baptist and Southwestern Oklahoma State last met in the 2025 GAC Tournament final, with OBU earning a 25-16, 25-20, 26-24 sweep at FireLake Arena.
  • Unruh was named the tournament's most valuable player after producing 24 kills on .415 hitting, 12 digs and three aces in the title match.
  • Her 24 kills established a three-set GAC Tournament record.
  • Boyer distributed 29 assists in the championship match, while Mackenzie Frazee and Lillian Noble combined for 17 kills and six blocks.
  • The Bison hit .294 and held Southwestern to .205 in the title match. OBU also recorded 12 block assists.

OBU vs. SWOSU SERIES HISTORY

  • Oklahoma Baptist leads 31-11 in the all-time series against SWOSU. The teams have met 24 times in the Division II era, with OBU leading 18-6.
  • The Bison are 6-5 when facing the Bulldogs on the road, 10-1 at home, and 2-0 on a neutral court in the Division II era.
