Bison Register Doubleheader Sweep of SNU

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist earned two wins over Southern Nazarene on Friday afternoon at Bobby Cox Field. The Bison rallied for a 14-9 game-one victory before a convincing 9-1 result in the second contest.

OBU extended its series winning streak to 15 games over the Crimson Storm in the process.

GAME ONE
The hosts erupted for eight runs in the eighth to break open a tight game and defeat Southern Nazarene 14-9.

The contest featured multiple momentum swings early. Oklahoma Baptist (20-24) struck first in the second inning on an RBI single from Keenan Morris, then added a solo home run by Ben Green in the third to take a 2-0 lead. Southern Nazarene (10-37) answered in the fourth and surged ahead with a three-run fifth, capitalizing on timely hitting from Kane Springer and James Bodine to claim a 4-2 advantage.

The Crimson Storm extended their lead to 6-4 in the sixth behind Springer's two-run single, as he finished with three hits and three RBI. However, the hosts steadily chipped away, tying the game at 6-6 through seven innings with the help of aggressive base running and productive outs.

The decisive moment came in the bottom of the eighth. The Bison sent 12 men to the plate and collected six hits in the frame. Green delivered a go-ahead RBI single, Tui Amosa followed with a sacrifice fly, and Lucas Schaefer added a two-run single. Zane Bennett and Isaac Hill capped the inning with run-producing hits, pushing the lead to 14-6.

Green led the Bison offensively, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored, a triple, and a home run. Braden Smith also had a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate.

Southern Nazarene mounted a late push with three runs in the ninth, but the deficit proved too large.

GAME TWO
Behind a pair of big innings and a strong start on the mound from Grayson Connell, OBU secured a 9-1 victory over SNU in the second game.

The Bison struck first in the opening inning when Schaefer delivered an RBI single to score Matt Marsic, setting the tone early. After a quiet second frame, Oklahoma Baptist broke the game open in the third. A sacrifice fly from Amosa, followed by Schaefer's RBI triple and a passed ball, pushed the lead to 4-0.

The decisive blow came in the fourth, when the Bison plated five runs on four hits. Marsic drove in a run with a single before Green cleared the bases with a two-RBI triple. Amosa capped the inning with an RBI groundout, extending the advantage to 9-0.

On the mound, Connell turned in a solid performance, allowing just one run on six hits over six innings while striking out seven to earn the win. Southern Nazarene's lone run came in the fifth on Springer's RBI single.

Garrett Payne took the loss for the Crimson Storm, surrendering nine runs—seven earned—across four innings.

Offensively, Marsic scored three times, while Green and Schaefer each drove in two runs to lead Oklahoma Baptist's nine-hit effort.

Tomorrow at 1 p.m., the two teams will meet for their final game of the 2026 season at Bobby Cox Field.
