ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist (12-11, 7-8 GAC) earned two impressive victories on Saturday at Henderson State, winning 12-2 in game one before a 5-0 shutout win in the series finale.
GAME ONE
OBU broke open a tight game with a late offensive surge, scoring 11 runs over the final three innings to defeat the Reddies in game on on Saturday.
The Bison trailed early after Henderson State took a 2–0 lead through three innings, highlighted by a solo home run from Mason Krznarich and an RBI single by Cooper McClure. Oklahoma Baptist began its comeback in the fifth inning when
Braden Smith launched a solo homer to left field to cut the deficit to one.
The game turned in the sixth. OBU capitalized on two Henderson State errors to tie the score before
Matt Marsic delivered an RBI single.
Ben Green followed with a two-run double to right-center, giving the Bison a 6–2 advantage.
Oklahoma Baptist added more insurance in the seventh inning.
Tui Amosa led off the frame with a solo home run, and later
Lucas Schaefer cleared the bases with a three-run double.
Quinn Johnson capped the scoring with an RBI ground-rule double.
Green paced the Bison offense, going 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs, and two walks. Schaefer drove in three runs, while Marsic added two hits and an RBI.
Marcus Peters (3-1) earned the win for OBU, allowing two runs on six hits over five innings while striking out four.
Grayson Connell closed the game with two scoreless innings and four strikeouts.
OBU finished with 10 hits and committed no errors, while Henderson State recorded seven hits but committed two costly defensive miscues.
GAME TWO
Pitchers
Logan Wade and
Teagon Standlee were fabulous as the duo combined to blank Hnderson. For Wade, he went four frames, struck out five, scattered three hits and induced five ground-ball outs. For Standlee, he closed the final three frames, did not give up a hit and struck out a pair.
With OBU's pitchers dealing, the Bison offense found some third- and fifth-inning run support.
In the third,
Matt Marsic scored on a wild pitch before he plated
Keenan Morris with a triple in the fifth.
Also in that fifth frame,
Quinn Johnson and
Tui Amosa each drove in base runners to bump OBU's lead to 5-0.
After that, Standlee retired the side in each of the sixth and seventh frames to keep the shutout intact.
