SHAWNEE -- Oklahoma Baptist walked off Missouri–St. Louis with a 2–1 win in 10 innings Sunday afternoon at Bobby Cox Field at Ford Park, completing a tightly contested pitcher's duel that stretched a little over two and a half hours.
The Bison struck first in the bottom of the third. After a double by
Jacob Campbell and a walk,
Quinn Johnson lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Campbell to score and give OBU a 1–0 lead. Missouri–St. Louis answered in the fourth when Michael Bonczkowski launched a solo home run to left, evening the score at 1–1.
From there, both pitching staffs took control. OBU starter
Kody Bialas was sharp, allowing one run on seven hits over 7.1 innings while striking out 12 and not issuing a walk.
Tritons starter Will O'Gorman matched him nearly pitch for pitch, surrendering one run on four hits across seven innings with seven strikeouts.
Neither team could break through in regulation despite multiple chances. The Tritons stranded eight runners and struck out 17 times, while the Bison left six on base and committed one error apiece. Relievers
Logan Wade and Tyler Schneider kept the game scoreless into extra innings.
In the bottom of the 10th, OBU finally delivered the decisive blow.
Lucas Schaefer singled to reach base, and after advancing, he came home on Johnson's double down the left-field line to seal the walk-off victory. Wade earned the win after tossing three scoreless innings in relief with five strikeouts.
Johnson finished with two RBIs for Oklahoma Baptist, while Campbell and
Ben Green each recorded extra-base hits. The Bison improved to 1-2 on the season with the dramatic extra-inning win.
Tomorrow, the two teams will meet again at 1 p.m.
