EDMOND, Okla. — Oklahoma Baptist leaned on timely hitting, steady pitching, and clean work in the field to knock off Oklahoma Christian 2–1 Saturday afternoon at the Lawson Softball Complex.
The Bison struck first in the second inning when
Greenlee Wells launched a solo home run down the right-field line to put OBU on top 1–0. Oklahoma Christian answered in the third, using a double and aggressive baserunning to tie the game at 1–1.
OBU regained the lead for good in the fourth. Wells worked a walk,
Ally Ryan doubled to put runners on second and third, and
Abby Laskowski delivered the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly to left-center, making it 2–1.
From there, defense took center stage.
Alexah Reyes provided steady, high-pressure defense in left field, helping neutralize Oklahoma Christian's contact and preventing extra bases in key moments. At first base,
Payton Bragg was equally dependable, handling chances cleanly and helping finish plays that kept OC from extending innings as the game tightened late. Together, Reyes and Bragg anchored a defensive effort that helped hold the Eagles to just four hits.
In the circle,
Jaycee Shaffer went the distance, allowing one run on four hits while working around two walks to earn the win, putting her at 7-0 this season.
Offensively, Wells paced the Bison with the home run and also scored the eventual game-winning run. Ryan added a double, and Laskowski drove in the decisive RBI.
Oklahoma Baptist finishes the weekend tomorrow at 2:30 pm vs. Eastern New Mexico University.
