ALVA - The No. 7-ranked (NABC) Oklahoma Baptist men's basketball team extended its winning streak to 16 games with a 71-59 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State. The victory pushes the Bison to 25-2 overall and 19-2 in Great American Conference play and outright regular-season champions, their first in the D2 era.
The game was tightly contested throughout, with momentum swinging back and forth for much of the night. Oklahoma Baptist shot 45.2 percent (14-of-31) in the first half and out-rebounded the Rangers 18-13, including five offensive rebounds. Despite struggling from beyond the arc early, the Bison relied on strong interior play and solid defense to hold Northwestern to 39.3 percent shooting. OBU carried a narrow 29-26 lead into halftime, using the break to regroup for the final 20 minutes.
The second half remained competitive, as the Rangers briefly seized momentum and built a 42-35 advantage. The Bison responded by tightening up defensively and finding timely scoring, which included a pair of three-pointers from
Terry Coner Jr., to shift control back in their favor.
Midway through the half, OBU's perimeter shooting came alive after a quiet start, making 8-out-of-16 attempted three pointers. Consistent shooting and steady defense allowed the Bison to outscore Northwestern 42-33 in the second half, pulling away late to secure the 71-59 victory.
Coner Jr. led the Bison with 18 points, adding three steals and two rebounds.
Joshua Udoumoh delivered an efficient performance with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point range.
Jackson Greene added 17 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, while
Erik Madrid contributed 11 rebounds to go along with five points and two blocks.
With balanced scoring and steady defensive pressure, OBU secured their 16th consecutive victory as they look to close out conference play on a strong note this week.
The Bison will return to action on Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Noble Complex against East Central in their final conference matchup of the regular season.
