Schaefer, Bison Run Rule RiverHawks

TAHLEQUAH -- The bats were scorching Tuesday afternoon as Oklahoma Baptist exploded for a season-high 22 runs during a 22-10 victory over Northeastern State at Rousey Field.

OBU (5-8) dialed up 18 hits, including seven home runs, in a game that featured early fireworks from both sides. The Bison struck first on a leadoff homer from Lucas Schaefer, but NSU answered with five runs in the bottom of the first to grab a 5-2 lead.

The momentum flipped quickly.

After plating two in the second, OBU erupted for seven runs in the third. Schaefer delivered the decisive blow with a grand slam to cap a four-RBI frame, putting the Bison back in front 8-5. Tui Amosa followed with a two-run blast later in the inning as OBU stretched the lead to 11-5.

NSU (4-9) responded with five runs in the bottom half of the third, highlighted by a two-run homer from Jackson Dillingham, trimming the deficit to 11-10. That would be as close as the RiverHawks would get.

The Bison broke it open with a six-run fourth inning, fueled by a three-run homer from Zane Bennett and RBI hits from Amosa, Matt Marsic, and Ben Green. OBU continued to add on late with solo shots from Schaefer in the sixth and Keenan Morris and Kaleb Latimer in the seventh.

Schaefer finished 3-for-5 with seven RBI and three homers, while Amosa and Bennett each drove in three or more. Grayson Connell earned the win in relief, tossing a scoreless seventh with three strikeouts.

On the mound, Teagon Standlee and Grayson Connell closed the final three frames for OBU and didn't allow a single run nor walked a batter. For Connell, he retired the side with three strikeouts in the seventh to earn the win.

OBU returns to action this coming weekend for a three-game GAC series with Southwestern Oklahoma State in Shawnee.
