Wells' Walk-Off Secures Win

SHAWNEE, Okla. — Oklahoma Baptist capped a back‑and‑forth contest in dramatic fashion Tuesday night, as Greenlee Wells hits a walk‑off home run in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Bison to an 8–7 win over Arkansas–Monticello at the OBU Softball Complex.

The Bison (13–2) produced nine hits and four home runs in the win, overcoming a late UAM surge to secure another home victory.

Oklahoma Baptist opened the scoring behind Wells, who put OBU on the board early with a solo blast in the first. Haley Hacker followed in the second with another solo homer to extend the lead to 2–0.

Arkansas–Monticello answered with a four‑run third inning, highlighted by a three‑run homer from Makenzie Martin, pushing the Cotton Blossoms ahead 4–2. The Bison responded immediately in the bottom of the frame, as Kaley Cook launched a solo shot and later Alexah Reyes tripled to help pull OBU within one at 4–3.

The fourth inning saw Oklahoma Baptist reclaim momentum. Ally Ryan opened the frame with a solo homer to tie things at 4–4, and the Bison later capitalized on an RBI double from Cook and an error to build a 6–4 advantage through four.

After a scoreless fifth, OBU added a key insurance run in the sixth when Hacker scored on a two‑out RBI double from Katelyn Kilgore, giving the Bison a 7–4 cushion heading into the final inning.
But UAM battled back. A walk and a single set the table before Dacia Sexton delivered a game‑tying three‑run homer in the top of the seventh, leveling the score at 7–7. Jaycee Shaffer steadied things from the circle, finishing a complete‑game effort with 11 strikeouts to earn her eighth win of the season.

That set the stage for Wells' heroics. Leading off the bottom of the seventh, she turned on a pitch and launched her second home run of the night—this one a no‑doubt walk‑off shot to left field—to deliver the Bison an 8–7 victory.

Wells finished 2‑for‑2 with two home runs, two RBI, a walk, and two stolen bases to power the offense. Cook added two hits, including a double and a homer, while Ryan and Hacker contributed solo shots. Kilgore tallied two hits and an RBI, and Reyes tripled and scored.

Oklahoma Baptist returns to action tomorrow for a doubleheader vs. Arkansas-Monticello at 1 and 3 pm.
