SHAWNEE, Okla. — Oklahoma Baptist took both ends of Saturday's twin bill against Arkansas–Monticello, winning 8–1 in Game 1 and 7–5 in Game 2 at the OBU Softball Complex. The Bison moved to 15–2 overall behind timely power, efficient pitching, and pressure on the basepaths.
GAME 1 — OBU 8, UAM 1 (7 inn.)
A six-run second inning broke the game open for OBU.
Abby Laskowski led off the frame with a solo home run,
Payton Bragg and
Jessi Hull reached to set the table, and
Greenlee Wells worked a bases-loaded walk before
Ally Ryan launched a grand slam to left for a 6–0 cushion. Ryan later added an RBI single in the sixth to finish with five RBIs on the day, while Laskowski and Hull each recorded a hit and a run.
Kaley Cook reached twice and stole a pair of bases, and
Haley Hacker swiped one as OBU kept the pressure on.
In the circle, freshman
Jaycee Kelln was superb, carrying a two-hitter into the seventh. She worked 6 innings, allowing just one unearned run with six strikeouts and no walks.
Naomi Redman recorded the final three outs to seal the win.
GAME 2 — OBU 7, UAM 5 (7 inn.)
The nightcap featured more late offense. After trailing 4–1 in the fourth, the Bison tied it with a three-run frame— highlighted by an RBI single from
Kaylee Davis and a two-RBI knock up the middle from
Kaley Cook. In the sixth,
Katelyn Kilgore and Cook singled to spark a three-run inning; pinch-hitter
Alexah Reyes delivered the go-ahead two-RBI single to left, and
Keirstin Briggs added a sacrifice fly for insurance. Cook capped a 4-for-4 game with two RBIs and two runs, while Wells reached three times with a hit and two walks. Davis finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Kilgore added a hit and a run.
Aubrey Williams started and gave way to
Jaycee Kelln, who earned the win with 4.1 innings of one-hit relief.
Jaycee Shaffer handled the seventh for her first save, overcoming a late homer by Ashlynne Vote to close it out.
The Bison return to action next Friday to begin their series against Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
