DURANT -- The No. 9-ranked Oklahoma Baptist Bison pushed through for a tough, 63-59 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon inside Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
OBU (21-2, 15-2 GAC) trailed 26-25 at halftime after a back-and-forth opening period that featured five ties and 11 lead changes. The Bison shot 40.7 percent in the first half and went 0-for-8 from three-point range but stayed within striking distance thanks to their work inside.
Terry Coner Jr. paced the Bison with 19 points, adding five assists and four steals in 38 minutes.
Jackson Greene contributed 15 points and seven rebounds, while
Erik Madrid added 10 points off the bench. OBU dominated the paint, outscoring Southeastern 44-20 inside, and finished with 24 second-chance points on 20 offensive rebounds.
Southeastern (6-17, 5-12 GAC) was led by Chandler Dickinson's 16 points. Santiago Camacho Gomez knocked down three 3-pointers en route to 11 points, and Augusto Toledo provided a spark off the bench with nine points, including three second-half triples.
The second half remained tight until midway through the period when OBU used a 15-2 surge to build a nine-point advantage. Coner capped the run with a three-pointer and later added a tip-in to give the Bison a 53-44 lead with just over six minutes to play.
The Savage Storm trimmed the deficit to three in the final minute, but a
Joshua Udoumoh dunk with 14 seconds left extended the lead to five and sealed the win. OBU shot 44.1 percent in the second half and forced 18 turnovers, converting them into 15 points to secure the road victory.
On Feb. 16, the Bison will return home to face Southwestern Oklahoma State at 7:30 p.m.
