Ninth-Ranked Bison to Visit SNU, Southeastern

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist, ranked No. 9 by the NABC, returns to the hardwood on Feb. 12 and 14 with road games against Southern Nazarene and Southeastern Oklahoma State.

Tip-off times are 7:30 p.m. in Bethany and 3 p.m. in Durant.

Earlier this season, the Bison crushed the Crimson Storm 84-61 and defeated the Savage Storm 98-82. To date, coach Jason Eaker's team has won 10 in a row, are 19-2 overall and 13-2 in the GAC, sitting just a half-game back of first place.

Todd Miller and Dave Myrick will have radio coverage of the games on KGFF. Below are notes on all three teams.

Bison Notes
  • OBU's No. 9 ranking is the highest-ever in the team's Division II era (since 2016-17).
  • The team's 10-game winning streak is the best since 2012-13 when the Doug Tolin-led Bison won 13 straight.
  • Furthermore, the current streak marks the 11th time since 2000 that an OBU squad posted at least 10-consecutive victories.
  • A few of the main reasons the team continues to thrive is rebounding and turnovers. OBU is second in the GAC in total rebounds, offensive boards and defensive boards per contest.
  • They also do not commit many turnovers. OBU is 14th in D2 and second in the GAC with 10.3 miscues per game.
  • Terry Coner Jr., is a top-25 scorer in the nation (20.4) and has 122 free throws, also slotted in the top-25.
  • Freshman Christian Hodge is coming off a four-block, four-steal performance at Arkansas Tech. He's the first GAC player this season to reach those totals in a game.
  • Speaking of the Tech game, the Bison shot below 35 percent from the field and downtown. With archived stats dating back to 2015-16, it's only the fourth time in 22 games that a Bison team won a contest in which it didn't shoot any better than 35.0 percent in both of those categories.
Crimson Storm Notes
  • SNU was defeated 81-60 at Harding last weekend, moving its record to 16-5.
  • The Crimson Storm are 10-1 on their home court this season with its only loss to Harding on Jan. 8.
  • Two things stick out about SNU: free throw shooting and defense. They rank 20th nationally in free throw percentage (76.7) and 32nd in points allowed (67.2).
  • That said, OBU put a 50-spot on SNU during the first half of the Jan. 22 contest at the Noble Complex.
  • Baron Bracey leads SNU with a 14.1 scoring average. He's also an excellent rebounder, ranking second in the GAC (7.8 per game).
  • Tracy Godfrey Jr., ranks second on the team in scoring (11.4) and also has a team-high 11 blocks.
Savage Storm Notes
  • Southeastern is having a rough year, sitting at 5-16 overall. They've lost seven of eight and sit in dead last in the GAC.
  • SE is a decent free throw shooting team, ranking 26th in the country at 76.3 percent.
  • They also fire a lot of threes, ranking 44th with 26.9 deep shots per game.
  • The Savage Storm are led offensively by Chandler Dickinson and Ethan Wilkerson who average 13.8 and 12.4 points, respectively.
  • Defensively, SE gives up the most points per game in the GAC at 79.9. They also allow teams to hit 49 percent from the field and 39.6 percent from downtown. Both of those marks sit in 12th in the GAC too.
  • Jamal Drewery ranks third in the conference dishing out 4.1 assists per game.
